Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team opened the 2017 season with a 2-0 win over visiting Alvernia University on Friday afternoon.
The Red Devils struck twice in the first half, scoring in a span of just under five minutes. Sophomore Caitlin Gugliotta (North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) put Dickinson on the board in the 23rd minute, finishing an assist from classmate Sienna Zittle (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin).
Junior Killian Donohue (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) gave the Devils a 2-0 advantage, capitalizing on a corner kick with 17 minutes remaining in the half.
Dickinson held a 9-3 advantage in shots in the first half and held a 7-0 advantage after the break. The Devils created a number of quality chances but strong play and five saves from Alvernia goaltender Jess Plunkett kept the scored at 2-0.
The Red Devils forced five corners in each half and didn't allow any on the defensive end. Junior goaltender Mary Katherine Brosnan (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) turned away two shots to record the shutout.
The Red Devils return to action on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Randolph Macon College for a 4:00 pm start.
