Box Score (Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback in the Centennial Conference opener, falling to #10-ranked Swarthmore College on Saturday night. Both teams entered the match, 6-0 on the season, making the conference debut for both teams that much bigger.
The Garnet put an early goal on the board as Katie Dougherty finished a through ball from Marin McCoy, just over four minutes into the contest. McCoy broke through the defense and scored in the 11th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
Dougherty capitalized on a rebound and added her second goal of the game, closing out the scoring with 19:40 remaining.
The Red Devils did have a strong showing, allowing just three corners on the defensive end. They held the Garnet to just 11 shots on goal with junior Mary Katherine Brosnan (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) coming away with eight saves on the night.
The Devils created some quality chances on the attack, forcing five saves from Amy Shmoys.
The Red Devils suffer their first loss of the season, slipping to 6-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference. They return home to face Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday night with the opening kick-off set for 7:00 pm.
