Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team had to work overtime but came out on top of visiting Franklin & Marshall with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday night at Miller Memorial Field.
Sophomore forward Caitlin Gugliotta (North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) scored twice for the Red Devils, netting the game-winner in the 97th minute with a nice move across the top of the penalty area.
Gugliotta put the Red Devils in front in the 10th minute, finishing an assist from junior Briona Davis (Franklin Park, N.J./Franklin). The Red Devils held the Diplomats without a shot in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
F&M tallied just three shots in the second half, but made one count as Reanna Lioni netted the game-tying goal in the 62nd minute, and that would eventually send the game into overtime.
The Diplomats had a strong chance in the early minutes of extra time, earning a free kick in a dangerous area but Lioni's attempt was over the crossbar.
Gugliotta made a strong move into the middle and found just enough room to fire a shot into the right corner of the net to give the Red Devils the win.
The Red Devils were dominant, statistically, outshooting the Diplomats, 33-4, while holding a 12-0 advantage in corners.
Gabby Panayotakis turned away 20 shots on the night for F&M as they fall to 3-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the Centennial Conference.
Mary Katherine Brosnan (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) finished with one save as Dickinson improves to 7-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play. The Red Devils are on the road on Saturday, traveling to Muhlenberg for a 4:00 pm start in Allentown.
