Red Devils Break Away to Sweep 'Fords 68-58

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team held off a tenacious effort from Haverford College to sweep the series, posting a 68-58, Centennial Conference win on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center.

The teams played even in the opening minutes and were tied, 11-11, midway through the first half. The Red Devils stretched the lead to 17-11 behind a quick spark from sophomore Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School).

Kahlil Barnes traded three-pointers with Jon Stenger (Midlothian, Va./James River) before the Carolina connection of Moses Romocki (Creedmoor, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) and Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) put the Red Devils up by 10, with 4:10 remaining in the half.

Dickinson held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the half until a late three-pointer from Garnes made the score, 28-21, at the break.

Haverford chipped away at the lead to start the second half, pulling even at the 9:53 mark. Junior Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) scored eight straight points to break a tie and put Dickinson in front, 59-51, with 2:51 to play in regulation.

The Red Devils finished strong at the free throw line to secure the win.

Garnes led Haverford with 15 points while Jack Cork added 11 points and 16 rebounds as they fall to 6-13 on the season and 2-10 in the conference.

Four players reached double-figures for the Red Devils. Hinckley led the way with a game-high 18 points, hitting 6-of-8 shots to go with six rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Romocki finished with 17 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Melton went 6-for-9 from the field for 13 points, adding seven rebounds and two assists. Allen was the fourth in double-digits with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The Red Devils improve to 11-8 overall and 7-5 in the CC. They are on the road next week, traveling to McDaniel College on Wednesday for an 8:00 pm start.
