Minicozzi Leads Sack Attack in Red Devil Win

(Huntingdon, Pa.) – The Dickinson football team erupted for 47 points on Saturday, posting a 47-14 win at Juniata College. The Red Devils were relentless on defense, holding the Eagles to just 137 yards of total offense and minus four yards rushing on the day.

Senior John Minicozzi (Media, Pa./Episcopal Academy) led the charge, recording four solo tackles, all for losses, including three sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. The Red Devils sacked the quarterback six times on the day. Senior Ethan Warrick (Herndon, Va./Langley) had a sack for a six-yard loss and recovered a fumble.

Classmate Thomas Nocka (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and sophomore Brian Snow (Media, Pa./Episcopal Academy) added sacks as well while Jordan Hollander (Waverly, Pa./Abington Heights) made five tackles and a pair of interceptions. James Turner (Ridgefield, Conn./Suffield Academy) recorded nine stops, including two for losses while Matt Butz (Monkton, Md./Hereford) had six tackles.

The Red Devils sacked Tim Graham on the opening possession, forcing a fumble and taking over on their own 37-yard line. Jeremy Walsh (Shickshinny, Pa./Northwest Area) capped a 52-yard drive for his first score of the day.

Juniata answered on the next possession, but Dickinson would tack on 17 points in the second quarter to take a 24-7 lead into halftime.

Walsh scored again to start the second quarter as the Red Devils put together a 70-yard drive. They forced turnovers on the next two Juniata drives, adding a touchdown pass from Billy Burger (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) to Daniel Salamone (Great Falls, Va./Langley) and a 20-yard field-goal from sophomore Trystin Golowski (Columbus, N.J./Bishop Eustace).

The Red Devils took the opening kick-off of the second half 65 yards on four plays as Phillip Butler (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) broke free from 49 yards out to stretch the lead to 31-7.

Juniata used an interception to cut the deficit to 31-14, but the Red Devils would finish strong, scoring 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Burger connected with Christopher Longo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) for a pair of touchdowns, sandwiched around a safety as the Devils sacked Jason Jones in the end zone for the final of 47-14.

Burger completed 18-of-30 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns while Butler ran 21 times for 156 yards and Walsh finished with 83 yards and two scores. Longo caught five passes for 68 yards while Salamone covered 55 yards on four catches and Jake Walbert (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) had 44 yards on six receptions.

The Red Devils improve to 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils return home next weekend to face Moravian College at 1:00 pm.
