Balanced Attack Leads Red Devils to OT Win

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team improved to 3-1 in the Centennial Conference after holding off visiting McDaniel College, 91-86, in overtime on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils had a strong start, jumping out to a 7-0 lead but the Green Terror would answer and pull even at the midpoint of the half, 18-18.

The teams traded leads for the remainder of the half. The first-year class finished strong as Adam Drummond (Cork, Ireland/Taft School, Conn.) hit a three-pointer and Chris Bates (Ellicott City, Md./Boys' Latin) and Ryan Robinson (Vienna, Va./George Marshall) scored to give the Red Devils a late lead.

Mike Jurzynski (Pearl River, N.Y./The Master's School) added a pair of free throws and Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) finished a great feed from Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School) to end the half with Dickinson on top, 40-37.

The Red Devils had another strong start to open the second half. Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School) and Jurzynski knocked down three-pointers and Robinson fed Ryan Devine (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) for a lay-up before hitting a pair of free throws to stretch the margin to double-figures with just over 12 minutes remaining.

McDaniel countered with a 12-2 run to pull within a field-goal at the 8:54 mark. The lead would get to as many as five throughout the remainder of the game. Jurzynski scored on a great feed from Jack Tierney (Darien, Conn./Darien) to put the Devils up three in the final minute but Aaron Washington answered with a big three-pointer on the other end.

The Red Devils had a final possession but were unable to close things out, sending the game into overtime. The battle continued into the extra-frame as the teams tied for the ninth time at the 3:05 mark. Hinckley put Dickinson in front for good with a three-point play, but McDaniel would keep coming.

Allen stretched the lead to four with a pair of free throws before Washington hit another three-pointer with 1:17 to play. Robinson responded with a huge triple of his own and Tierney added a late free throw for the final of 91-86.

Five Red Devils reached double-figures on the night. Hinckley led the way with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Jurzynski and Robinson each scored 15, combining to go 9-for-10 from the field and 9-for-12 from the line.

Bates shot the lights out as well, hitting 7-of-8 shots for 14 points to go with four rebounds. Allen finished with 11 points, five assists and three rebounds, going 4-for-4 from the line. Drummond added eight points and five rebounds while Wright tallied seven points and six rebounds. Tierney had three points, four rebounds and four assists.

The Red Devils improve to 3-5 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road this weekend, traveling to Johns Hopkins for a 3:00 pm start.
