#9 Red Devils Keep Dancing With NCAA Win

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #9-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship, turning back Lynchburg College 16-12 on Wednesday afternoon at Biddle Field.

The Red Devils jumped out to 2-0 start as junior Brodie Phillips (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) fed Tyler Strods (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) and then scored unassisted to put the Red Devils on the board.

Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) traded goals with Lynchburg's Evan Lombardo before Kevin Rogers scored and the assisted Colin McGuire to knot the game, 3-3.

That didn't last long, however, as Ryan Campbell (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) won the face-off and dished an assist to Charlie DeMuth (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) to give Dickinson a 4-3 lead at the end of the quarter.

Five different Red Devils found the net in the second quarter as Dickinson ran the score to 9-3. Strods and Jack O'Connell (Sands Point, N.Y./Westminster) each tallied a goal and an assist in the run to lead the charge.

McGuire cut the deficit to 9-4 at halftime, scoring with just eight seconds on the clock.

Senior Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) found the net early in the second half. The Red Devils traded goals with the Hornets as Carney and O'Connell added tallies to give Dickinson a 12-6 lead with 7:25 remaining in the third.

McGuire fed Shayne O'Brien and then struck twice to end the period with the score 12-9. The Hornets lived up to their name and would not go away as Rogers finished an assist from McGuire and then cut the margin to 12-11 with an unassisted goal at the 12:57 mark of the fourth.

Carney answered with a brilliant goal, triggering a 4-0 run behind tallies from Nick Goles (Monkton, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) and Max Menkes (Potomac, Md./Bullis) in a span of two minutes. Phillips stretched the margin to 16-11, finding the net at the five-minute mark.

Rogers tallied one more time for the final of 16-12.

Carney led the Red Devils with four goals, adding four ground balls while O'Connell, Strods and Phillips each tallied two goals and an assist.

Senior Patrick Finneran (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) anchored the defensive effort with a pair of caused turnovers and five grounds balls. Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) forced four turnovers and controlled five GBs as well.

Campbell had another strong day, winning 21-of-29 face-offs and controlling 10 GBs. Sophomore Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made 13 saves in the nets for the Red Devils.

CJ Santora made 11 saves for Lynchburg as they finish 12-9 on the season.

The Red Devils improve to 16-3 overall. They will be home again on Saturday, hosting Washington & Lee University. Game time will be determined on Thursday.
