Red Devils Work Way Past Washington 73-68

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team held off a late rally by Washington College to secure a 73-68 Centennial Conference win here on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center.

The Red Devils used a balanced attack to jump out to a 14-6 advantage. First-year Adam Drummond (Cork, Ireland/Taft School, Conn.) led the way with a pair of lay-ups, a rebound, assist and a steal in the opening five minutes.

Dickinson put together an 8-0 run to pull in front, 36-22, with just over three minutes to play in the first half. Washington rallied behind strong play from Josh Porteous to cut the deficit to seven at the break, 40-33.

The Red Devils stretched the lead to 13, early in the second and held a double-digit advantage until the midpoint of the half. Washington looked to make another run, but Dickinson was able to keep some separation with a nine-point lead at the five-minute mark.

The Shoremen clawed back to within three before Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) connected on four straight free throws.

Washington made one more run, but the Devils would hold the lead with free throws from Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School) and a strong finish from Will Colleran (Wayne, Pa./Valley Forge Military Academy) down the stretch.

Hinckley led the way with a game-high 18 points and four rebounds, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Wright added 17 points, going 6-for-8 from the field and just missing a double-double with nine rebounds.

Drummond reached with double-figures with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. First-year Chris Bates (Ellicott City, Md./Boys' Latin) was solid inside, scoring 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting while controlling five rebounds as well.

Junior Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School) dished out six assists and made four steals to go with five points while Jack Tierney (Darien, Conn./Darien) tallied five points, six rebounds and three assists.

The Red Devils improve to 7-8 overall and 5-3 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Wednesday night, hosting Johns Hopkins University at 7:30 pm.
