Bears Hold Off Red Devils in Senior Day Finale

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson football team suffered a 27-19 setback to Ursinus College in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears rallied with 24 points in the second half to secure the final bid in the Centennial-MAC Bowl Series, earning the final spot with tie-breaking wins over Moravian and Dickinson.

Senior James Turner (Ridgefield, Conn./Suffield Academy) forced a fumble and Brian Snow (Media, Pa./Episcopal) recovered on the Ursinus' 20-yard line to set up a 33-yard field-goal from senior Trystin Golowski (Columbus, N.J./Bishop Eustace) with 9:53 remaining in the first quarter.

The Bears capitalized on a turnover to set up a 27-yard field-goal to tie the game with 12 minutes to play in the first half.

Dickinson answered on the very next series as Robert Geiss (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) made a beautiful fake hand-off and then hit senior Daniel Salamone (Great Falls, Va./Langley) with a perfect strike for a 65-yard touchdown. The extra-point attempt failed, putting Dickinson up, 9-3, with 10:26 remaining in the half.

Ursinus put together a strong drive to open the second half, capping a nine-play, 71-yard drive with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Jack Psenicska to Ardashes Dulger.

The Bears held on the next drive and then hit a 22-yard field-goal to stretch the lead to 13-9, with 7:31 to play in the third.

The Red Devils closed the gap at the end of the third behind a 38-yard field-goal from first-year Raleigh Wynot (Lakeville, Conn./Salisbury School) to cut the deficit to 13-12.

Jordan Hollander (Dalton, Pa./Abington Heights) made a beautiful diving interception at midfield to start the fourth quarter but the Bears would intercept a pass in the end zone on the next possession and put together an 80-yard scoring drive to lead 20-12.

The Red Devils put together a strong drive at the end of the game as Geiss connected with Christopher Longo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) on two passes for 44 yards and hit Salamone to move the ball another 16 yards down the field.

Geiss ran for 13 yards, hit Daniel Bathon (Malvern, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) for seven yards and then scored on a one-yard dive to make it a one-score game, 27-19, with 49 second to play.

Golowski gave the Red Devils a chance with a beautifully placed on-side kick but the Bears were able to cover the ball and secure the win.

The Red Devils had some big numbers individually on the day. Jeremy Walsh (Shickshinny, Pa./Northwest Area) ran for 106 yards while Geiss was just shy of the century mark, running for 99 while adding 203 through the air.

Salamone made six catches for 143 yards on the afternoon while Longo had five receptions for 71 yards.

Snow led the defense with 11 tackles, including three for losses and a forced fumble. Anthony Cicini (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) recorded eight tackles while Hollander added six solo tackles, two-for-losses and an interception.
