Tate Trick Sends #11 Red Devils to Conference Final

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #11/12 ranked and top-seed Dickinson women's soccer team advanced to the Centennial Conference Championship with a 3-0 shutout over #4-seed Gettysburg College in the first semifinal on Saturday at Miller Memorial Field.

First-year Meg Tate (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) did the damage on the offensive end, netting a natural hat-trick to raise her season total to 18, tying for third on the program single season list.

Sophomore goaltender Carli Boyer (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) also hit a milestone, breaking the school record with her 11th shutout of the season. The Red Devil defense also had another stellar performance, allowing just five shots and two on net.

The Red Devils have not been scored upon in the past four games, holding a remarkable 0.45 goals-against-average on the year.

Dickinson capitalized on an early corner as senior Addy Zandi (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) served a beautiful ball to the back post and a waiting Tate, who redirected a header into the back of the net.

Tate tallied another just moments later, turning at the top of the penalty area and slipping a shot through a crowd to give the Red Devils a 2-0 advantage with 32 minutes remaining in the first half.

Senior Ally Diez (Rockville Center, N.Y./South Side) made a great move into the area and was taken down for a penalty kick. Tate stepped to the mark and put the ball in the back of the night for the third time on the day for the natural hat-trick and her third of the season.

The Red Devils doubled up the Bullets in shots, 10-5, with Gettysburg holding the advantage in corners, 6-4.

The Red Devils improve to 14-1-4 on the season and will host #2-seed and #12/10-ranked Johns Hopkins University at 1:00 pm on Sunday in the championship. The Blue Jays held off a late surge by Haverford College for a 1-0 victory in the other semifinal.

The Red Devils are ranked 11th in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and 12th by D3soccer.com while the Blue Jays hold the #12-spot in the USC poll and are ranked 10th on D3soccer.com to set the stage for an exciting championship match.
