Red Devils Solid at the Stripe in 61-54 Win

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team had a strong start and played well down the stretch, holding on to top visiting McDaniel College by the identical score of the women's game, 61-54.

Jack Tierney (Darien, Conn./Darien) converted a three-point play to put Dickinson up 10-6, early in the first half. Sophomore Onye Okoro (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) grabbed an offensive rebound and scored before pulling down another on the other end and feeding Travis Dobbins (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) for a 16-9 lead at the midpoint of the half.

Sophomore Adam Drummond (Cork, Ireland/Taft School, Conn.) scored back-to-back buckets to give Dickinson a double-digit lead and sophomore Ryan Robinson (Vienna, Va./George Marshall) buried a three-pointer for a 15-point advantage, with just under two minutes to play.

Dickinson took a 31-20 lead into halftime, but McDaniel would make a strong run to start the second, cutting the margin to just a field-goal in the opening five minutes.

Aaron Washington tied the game at 37 with a three-pointer and Kaelen Kanealey converted a three-point play to put McDaniel in front at the midpoint of the half.

Chris Bates (Ellicott City, Md./Boy's Latin) hit a pair of free throws and Robinson took a steal to the basket for a three-point play, putting the Red Devils back on top, 46-45.

Tierney would hit a field-goal and come right back with a three-pointer to give the Red Devils a 51-50 lead and Drummond completed a three-point play for a four-point advantage, with 2:38 to play.

The Red Devils were solid at the line down the stretch to secure the win and move to 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in the Centennial Conference.

Robinson finished with a game-high 17 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals while going 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Drummond went 7-for-7 from the line, adding 15 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Tierney reached double-figures with a double-double, scoring 14 points and controlling 10 rebounds to go with three assists. Bates added nine points and six rebounds.

The Red Devils shot 94 percent from the free throw line, converting 16-of-17 on the night. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Haverford College at 4:00 pm.
