Box Score (Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team had a strong first half at #1-ranked Swarthmore, but the Garnet rallied after the break to remain unbeaten with a 96-69 decision on Saturday.
KJ Holton (Clinton, Md./DeMatha) and Ryan Robinson (Vienna, Va./George Marshall) hit back-to-back three-pointers to give Dickinson a 10-9 lead at the 15:54 mark.
The Garnet put together a run, doubling-up the Red Devils 24-12, before Robinson knocked down another triple. That triggered a big run for Dickinson, capped by a coast-to-coast three-point play from senior Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School) to knot the game at 24.
Allen fed a nice assist to Chris Bates (Ellicott City, Md./Boys' Latin) and buried a three-pointer to give the Red Devils a 29-26 lead with just under seven minutes to play in the half.
The Red Devils continued to hit three-pointers to keep pace with the hosts. Dan Conlan (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) converted a pair of free throws and hit a three-pointer for a 39-36 lead.
Swarthmore closed out the half with an 8-0 run to lead 44-39 at the break. Holton opened the second half with a quick score before the Garnet stretched the lead to 55-41.
Allen looked to keep the Red Devils in striking distance, but the Garnet would continue to build on the lead throughout the second half.
Allen had a monster game, coming within one of the school-record as he handed out 11 assists on the afternoon, adding 20 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Robinson scored 13 while Conlan reached double figures with 11, going 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Bates tallied six points and six rebounds.
The Red Devils slip to 3-20 overall and 3-13 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road again on Wednesday, traveling to Gettysburg College for an 8:00 pm tip-off.
