Rough Hitting Night Costs Volleyball Against Bullets

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team hit .035 as a team and allowed the visiting Gettysburg College to post a .248 as the Bullets knocked off the Devils in straight sets on Wednesday night at the Kline Center. The Bullets won by scores of 25-12, 25-14, and 25-22.

Kills by Morgan Biggs, Emma Lange, and Hanna Riley got the home side out to a 4-3 lead early. Then, scores from Cat Holtz, Zanze Kuba-McCoy, and Callie Pidoriano sent the Bullets on a 12-4 push to take a 15-8 advantage. Lange and Riley cut the deficit to 17-10, but an 8-2 run for Gettysburg ended the first set at 25-12.

Dickinson began the second strong as well as Emma Popham, Jenna Schumann, and Biggs recorded points to lead 6-4. However, for the second straight set, it would be the Bullets with a big run as they took 10 of the next 14 points to jump ahead 14-10. Five attack errors by the Devils added to the struggles as Gettysburg was able to increase the advantage to 22-11. Biggs, Lange, and Riley trimmed the gap to 23-14, but Holtz put away the final kill for the 25-14 victory.

Christina Chu, Biggs, Lange, and Popham came flying out of the gates to start the third as DC took an early 8-3 edge. Dickinson continued to keep the Bullets at bay with Willow Palmer joining Lange and Riley on the attack to hold the advantage at five 14-9. However, that woke up the visitor's offense as Olivia Biggs, Jordyn Horowitz, and Chelsea O'Leary helped GC go on a 14-2 rampage to take a commanding 23-16 lead. Dickinson would not go quietly in front of a raucous crowd as Riley and Schumann organized a 6-0 push to trim the margin to 23-22. Unfortunately, Ingrid Bayer and Izzy Lugar put up back-to-back kills to finish the match 25-22.

Next on the Court

Dickinson will take part in a tri-match on Saturday at Swarthmore College. First, the Devils will battle the host Garnet in a pivotal Centennial Conference clash at noon, before facing Stockon University at 2:30 p.m.
