Devils Downed by No. 2 Blue Jays

Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Dickinson women's soccer team fought hard, but was unable to find the back of the net as the second-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays earned a 2-0 Centennial Conference win on Wednesday night at Homewood Field.

The home side got on the board with the first shot of the game as Katie Sullivan dribbled into the attacking third and lifted a shot over the head of Sophia Kavulich for the 1-0 lead at the 7:02 mark. Hopkins tried to make it 2-0 two minutes later, but Kavulich turned away Amaya Ellis. Dickinson then got on the front foot with Macey Mento forcing a save out of Caitlin Hendricks before Meg Tate would send one over the net. The Blue Jays had the ensuing four chances, with Kavulich knocking aside an attempt from Sullivan in the 21st-minute. At the 32:43 mark, Dickinson had an opportunity to draw level, but Tate was unable to beat Hendricks which sent the match to half.

For the second half in a row, Hopkins would tally on the opening shot thanks to Rachel Jackson who turned inside the box and fired a shot near post for the 2-0 edge with 3:56 gone in the period. Eight minutes later Dickinson had a chance to cut into the deficit, however, Emma Cooney fired wide of the target. Kavulich then had to be sharp in the 78th-minute as she stopped Riley O'Toole, before making a brilliant diving save on Emma Billings to hold the margin at 2-0. The Devils would have one more shot to break the clean sheet as Allie Charnas broke down the wing and fired the ball towards goal. Unfortunately, it went right at Hendricks who preserved the 2-0 shutout.
