Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The host Swarthmore College Garnet outscored the Dickinson men's basketball team 46-26 after 20 minutes and never looked back as they shot a blistering 53.2% from the field (47.8% from deep) to hand the Devils their first Centennial Conference loss of the season by a score of 87-57 on Saturday afternoon.
The game was close early with Aaron Bailey and Drew Haueisen keeping the visitors close at 8-5 in the first three minutes. Then, Swarthmore went on an 11-3 charge with Conor Harkins (2) and Matt Mulvey knocking home three triples to go ahead 19-8 with five minutes gone. Andrew Gostovich and Ryan Robinson made five straight foul shots to cut it down to 21-13. Chris Bates and Bailey did their best to keep the Garnet within reach scoring five of the next ten points to keep the deficit right where it was at 26-18. However, Colin Shaw capped off a 5-0 home push to make it 31-18, before Travis Dobbins netted five in a row to trim the gap back to eight 31-23 at the 13:56 mark. The rest of the period belonged to Swat as they went on a 15-3 rampage to close the half with the only DC basket coming with 34-seconds remaining when Dobbins hit from downtown.
Haueisen scored the first five of the second half for the Devils to make it 50-31. George Visconti then recorded five of seven points during a 7-0 run to open the advantage back up to 57-31. Will Colleran, Anthony Goeb, Onye Okoro, Randy Shephard, and Haueisen embarked on an 11-6 push to try and give Dickinson a lifeline but were only able to cut the margin by five to 63-42 with ten minutes left. Unfortunately, five consecutive Vinny DeAngelo points sparked a 7-0 charge for the home side to extend the lead out to 70-42. Over the next five minutes Brandon Wiercinski, Colleran, and Goeb each hit from downtown to make it 78-54. Swat closed on a 9-3 run to end the game at 87-57.
