ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Dickinson men's soccer team went in search of their first win of the 2021 campaign on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, an own goal and an 89th-minute strike by Lucca Mazzola was enough to cancel out a Ronan Higgins goal for a 2-1 Seahawks win.

Dickinson almost had the lead in the first minute, but Tyson Burling had his shot cleared off the goal line by a St. Mary's defender. The first two chances by the Seahawks did not test keeper John Baney, until the 19th-minute when Owen Smith was denied by Baney. It would be the Red Devils who got on the board first when Higgins fired a shot by Liam Delone-Bellsey with 24:14 gone. Just 11-seconds later the Seahawks had equalized thanks to an own goal charged against the visitors. Baney was tasked with making four more saves in the half, while Bellsey turned away Adam Moreland and Shane Mundorf. 

Five minutes into the second period Roshawn Panton was told no by Baney, before his counterpart was up to the task against Burling after Meron Tekeste hit the post. Burling would have three more tries at goal over the following five minutes, but only forced one save. Heading into the final ten minutes Dickinson continued to be on the front foot with shots coming from Chaz Smith, Isaac Bradbuy and Chris Hackley. With just 1:07 left the home side found the winner as Thomas Williamson setup Mazzola for the winner.

Dickinson will have their home opener on Wednesday night as they welcome nationally-ranked Messiah University to Dickinson Park at 7 p.m.
