Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. - The No. 21 Dickinson women's soccer got first-half goals from Sophia Elguera and Emma Cooney to push the Red Devils past the host Arcadia University Knights by a scoreline of 2-0 on Wednesday night in non-conference action.
After a couple of early fouls against both sides, Arcadia tried to strike first but was unable to convert off a pair of corners to keep things scoreless. Dickinson got their opening chance at the 8:57 mark when Elguera was stopped by Gabby Green. Just over a minute later, the Devils were on the board as Meg Tate had a blast hit the woodwork before Elguera collected the rebound and put it over Green for the 1-0 lead. Elguera went looking to complete the brace with 14:09 gone but had it blocked. After Tate had been turned aside by Green, she provided the assist on the second goal of the half in the 23rd-minute when her shot was fumbled by Green prior to being poked home by Cooney to make it 2-0. Arcadia had the final attempt of the half in the 39th-minute when Riley Ratcliffe tested Sophia Kavulich who was up to the task.
Dickinson was on the front foot to start the second period with Tate firing two shots towards new Knights keeper Julia Mendez who was able to keep the margin where it was. Kavulich held the fort once again with 55:44 elapsed when she turned aside Grace Cosgrove. The Red Devils keeper would add two more saves on the night. DC tried for a third late in the match, but Macey Mento doinked one off the post and Mendez knocked away the attempt from Keira Shooup for the 2-0 final.
