Top-Ranked Blue Jays Fly by Devils

Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Dickinson volleyball team had their four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night with a straight-set loss to top-ranked Johns Hopkins University in Centennial Conference play at Goldfarb Gymnasium. The Blue Jays won by set scores of 25-13, 25-17, and 25-13.

JHU came out of the gates strong taking a 7-1 lead to start the match. Kills from Morgan Biggs and Hannah Riley brought the margin back to 7-4, before the hosts took four of the next five points to extend the gap to 11-5. DC tried to hang tough though with Alexa Barowski, Emma Lange, Jordan Schucker, and Biggs fighting back to 12-10. However, that sparked the Jays as they closed on a 13-3 charge to end the set.

Blocks by Barowski, Lange, and Riley kept things close at the start of the second game with JHU leading 5-3. Dickinson kept battling with kills by Elise Butler, Jenna Schumann, Biggs, and Schucker cutting the deficit to one at 11-10. An 11-4 run by the home team opened up a 21-14 advantage. Lange recorded the only other kill for the Devils in the set, but it was not enough as JHU held on for the 25-17 win.

The Blue Jays took a commanding 8-1 advantage to begin the third. Lange recorded a pair of kills and Riley added an ace to close within 8-4. Unfortunately, JHU responded with a 7-2 push to stretch the margin to 16-7. A Biggs kill made it 16-9, but four straight from the Jays opened it back up to 20-9. Biggs, Lange, and Schucker each added a kill down the stretch, however, it would not be enough as a Sydney Portale kill ended the match at 25-13.
