Devils Hold Off Green Terror in Centennial Action

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball team held their second straight opponent to under 30% shooting from the floor as the visiting McDaniel College Green Terror went just 17-59 on the night as the Red and Black came up with a 54-51 win at the Kline Center on Thursday night.

Dickinson took an early 2-0 lead on a driving finish from Ryan Robinson. However, Michael Wallace scored four points during a 9-0 charge by the visitors to jump ahead 9-2 with 15:38 remaining. The Red and Black chipped away at the deficit over the next couple of minutes thanks to seven consecutive points by Robinson to cut the score down to 11-9. An unassisted layup for Drew Haueisen along with a triple from Luke Spellman put the home side back on top 14-13 at the halfway point. McDaniel responded with their second big run of the half going on a 7-0 run to reclaim a 20-14 advantage. Charles Contee and Robinson traded some free throws to maintain a 24-18 McDaniel edge. Another bucket by Robinson cut the margin to 24-20, but four straight by Carter Truby along with a layup for Wallace extended the lead to 30-20 with 92-seconds left. Randy Shephard converted an "and one" opportunity for the final Dickinson points of the period as the Red and Black went to the break down 34-23.

In the opening four minutes of the second half, Jack Tierney tried to bring DC back in the contest by accounting for their first five points of the frame to make it 36-28. A Wallace free throw stopped the Tierney tirade for a second, before Chris Bates, Anthony Goeb, and Tierney went on an 8-0 run to get within 37-36. McDaniel was determined to fight back as they embarked on a 7-2 run with a pair of Contee free throws wrapping it up at 44-38 at the ten-minute mark. The Devils came roaring back as Bates, Goeb, and Tierney each hit the bottom of the net during a 9-0 run to take a 47-44 lead still with 6:32 left. Josh Sproul hit three free throws to level the score at 47-47, prior to Haueisen hitting twice on the line for the Red and Black. Wallace took advantage of a missed free throw for Robinson to finish a layup at the other end for 49-49, but on the ensuing trip down the floor, Robinson found a wide-open Tierney for three (52-49). After Wallace pulled the Green Terror to within 52-51, Robinson drilled two on the charity line for the 54-51 lead. McDaniel got two looks at a game-tying three, but both Chris McAboy and Dragan Hornatko came up short.
