Blue Jays Fly Past Devils in Conference Action

Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Dickinson men's basketball team returned to the hardwood for the first-time in 24 days on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, for the Devils, they were not able to hand the host Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays their first Centennial Conference loss on the campaign as the host overpowered DC by a final of 82-48 at Goldfarb Gymnasium.

Dickinson struggled out of the box turning it over three possessions in a row leading to an 11-0 Hopkins lead just 2:17 in. Thanks in large part to five points from Tom Quarry. Five points by Andrew Gostovich and a layup from Drew Haueisen cut the margin to 15-7 at the four-minute mark. Jack Tierney finished at the rim and Chris Bates stepped behind the arc to knock down his first collegiate triple to make it 19-12 home side. A 7-0 Jays flight ending in a three-ball by Braeden Johnson pushed the lead to 26-12. Buckets later in the half for Anthony Goeb and Ryan Robinson trimmed the gap by one 29-18 with 6:40 to go. Hopkins ended the period with a 10-5 run with Dickinson baskets being provided by Will Colleran, David Vogt, and Tierney making it 39-23 at the break.

The Devils recorded the opening four points of the second half with Luke Spellman and Tierney each converting in the paint. Johns Hopkins then seized control of the contest with a 15-2 charge as Haueisen notched the only DC bucket making it 54-29 with 11:56 still on the clock. Goeb stalled the hosts' momentum for a brief moment with back-to-back treys pulling the visitors within 54-35 at the halfway point of the period. Six straight by Quarry sparked a 14-3 rampage to push the margin out to 68-38. Aaron Bailey, Brandon Wiercinski, Bates, Goeb, and Spellman each picked up points for the Red and Black over the final seven minutes, but it would not be enough as the Jays closed out the 82-48 final.
