Devils Pound the Rock and Eagles

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson football used a "ground and pound" approach on Saturday afternoon as the Red and White rushed 50 times for 292 yards and did just enough through the air to score 45 straight points en route to a 45-7 conference win over Juniata College on Saturday at Biddle Field.

The visitors began the game with the ball and used pass plays of 42 and 23 yards to move down to the DC6. After an incompletion on first down Hunter Wolfley carried twice to the DC1 to setup fourth-and-goal. Quarterback Noah Wright found Julian Jackson for a one-yard score (Alex Mullin kick) and a 7-0 lead. Dickinson's first drive advance to the JC37, before Rocco DiRico had a pass picked off by Quintin Stephens in the endzone to give the ball back to the visitors. After the DC defense forced a Wyatt Buell punt the Devils went back to work on their own 23. Diante Ball would tote the rock three straight times to move out to the JC36. DiRico then hit Princeton Douglass with three consecutive passes making it first down at the JC11. Douglass ran for three yards, before DiRico did it himself from eight yards out for the tie (Matt Moroz kick). The Eagles would end the first by going three-and-out on their next drive.

Runs by Ball and Douglass pushed the ball to the DC45, before DiRico hit Ball for 16 yards making it first down on the JC39. After a nine-yard scamper by DiRico it became the "Ball Show" as he rushed five straight times for 30 total yards and a touchdown (Moroz kick). Another three-and-out posted by the Devils defense led to three more points as a seven-play all running drive stalled out at the JC22 resulting in a 39-yard kick by Moroz making it 17-7 with 3:35 left in the half. The ensuing Eagles drive lasted just three plays before Wright was picked off by Lewis Baer to setup the Red and White on the JC22. Dickinson needed two plays for DiRico to hook up with Douglass for a 22-yard TD (Moroz kick). The Devils added seven more points prior to the end of the half as passes from DiRico to Johnny Knight and Douglass pushed the ball to the JC13. Three consecutive Ball runs capped off the half with another TD stretching the advantage to 31-7 at the break.

Dickinson began the third the same way they ended the second by finding the endzone as the Devils used the ground duo of Ball and Douglass to go nine plays and 72 yards in 5:40 to extend the lead to 38-7 when Douglass ran home untouched from ten out (Moroz kick). Juniata would go three-and-out with their first possession of the half to setup DC at their own 41. Three rushes by Ball pushed the rock to the JC31. Ball and Douglass would each carry for 11 yards, before Ball went up the middle of the Eagles defense to make it 45-7 (Moroz kick). On the ensuing drive Juniata worked onto the plus side of the 50 (DC29) thanks to passes to Dylan Sweger and a run by Wolfley. However, a positive looking drive would stall out when Wright was intercepted by James Basilii to end the third.

The fourth quarter would see no points and no real offensive threats as Dickinson coasted to the 45-7 win.

Defensively, the Red and White were led by Basilii who made a team-high 11 tackles (nine solo) and recorded an interception. The trio of Bram Leys, Tanner Long, and John Prochniak each had six tackles on the day. Fabian Egger notched the only sack of the afternoon for the Devils.
