HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Dickinson women's volleyball team was limited to just a .061 hitting percentage on the afternoon as the Red and White had their three match win streak stopped by the host Haverford College 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Gooding Arena in Centennial Conference action.
Dickinson had a solid start to the first set with kills from
Alexa Barowski and
Emma Popham giving the visitors a 3-2 edge. However, a score by Kendall Otridge led to an 8-2 Fords push finished off by a Jadyn Elliott score to grab a 10-5 lead. After the teams traded the ensuing eight points points for
Emma Lange and Barowski pulled DC to within 15-13. Eliana Brown, Cameryn DeBlecourt, Tea Kuzbari, Izabela Potocnjak, and Elliott answered back with an 8-2 run stretching the margin out to 23-15. Kills from
Jordan Schucker and Barowski would not be enough as Otridge put away the final score for the 25-18 win.Â
The Devils began the second with a 2-0 lead thanks to
Sophia Denayer and Barowski, but then the Fords came back with a 7-1 charge to jump ahead 7-3. A combination block between Lange and Popham was followed by scores from Denayer and Lange to cut the deficit down to 10-8. However, once again the home side had the answer with kills by Juliet Young, Brown, and DeBlecourt opened the lead to double-digits 22-10. Dickinson tried to get back within striking distance as
Ann Marie Patterson and Popham amassed a 5-2 run to make it 24-15, before Potocnjak recorded the final kill (25-15).
Aces from Taylor Jones and Brown gave Haverford an early 5-2 edge in the third. Lange and Popham brought life back to the Dickinson sideline with a 7-3 scamper to take a 9-8 lead. Five of the next eight points went the way of the hosts to give them the slim 13-12 advantage. Four miscues by the Fords nudged DC back to front 16-14, before a 6-2 Haverford charge made it 20-18. A Lange kill and joint block for
Mathilde Verbitsky and Barowski knotted the score at 20-20. Unfortunately, a 5-2 home run capped off by a mishit for
Cassidy Davis gave the Fords the 25-22 win.
