WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Dickinson women's basketball team had three players reach double-figures on Tuesday night to head into their Thanksgiving break with their first conference win of the season after knocking off McDaniel College 52-46 at the Gill Center.
Just over a minute into the first quarter the home side took a 2-0 lead with a jumper by Jordan McLean. After that however the rest of the period belonged to the Red and White as they went on a 15-0 rampage with
Caitlin Blackman netting six, followed by four from
Mia Kolb, three for
Clair Marion and two by Lindsay Hollenshead. Meggie Burgess knocked home two at the line with eight-seconds left to make it 15-4 going to the second.
Kate Montgomery tallied the first bucket of the second with just 17-seconds off the clock, before a jumper by Liliana Overcash and triple for Bri Floyd cut the deficit to 17-9 two minutes in. Montgomery hit her second jumper of the period and Kolb delivered two from the charity line to extend the advantage to nine (21-12) with 5:50 off the clock. McDaniel fought back with Elaina Beckett scoring four straight to kickoff an 8-2 run to make it 23-20 as
Mia Chapman supplied the only offense for the Devils. In the final minute Kolb would add two more points to her ledger for a 25-20 Dickinson edge at the half.
It would take two minutes into the third period before either team hit the bottom of the net as Beckett and McLean delivered for the home side to pull within two 26-24. However, a jumper by Marion, followed by a steal and fastbreak bucket for Blackman quickly pushed the DC advantage out to six (30-24) at the halfway point of the quarter. McDaniel closed to within one (32-31) with a 7-2 run ending on a bucket from Overcash. With two minutes remaining Chapman found Marion for a jumper, before Overcash knocked down a triple prior to the buzzer going off to knot things at 34 heading to the fourth.
Dickinson opened things back up to begin the fourth with Hollenshead, Kolb, and Montgomery embarking on an 11-2 rampage over the first five minutes to take a nine-point advantage at 45-36. A three-point basket by Beckett stalled the charge for a moment, before jumpers from Blackman, Kolb, and Montgomery stretched the lead back to nine (51-42) with 98-seconds remaining. Consecutive McDaniel steals resulted in fastbreak buckets for Josey Klingenberg and Beckett cut it down to 51-46. However, they would get no closer as Kolb split two at the line with seven seconds left to cap the scoring at 52-46.
