CARLISLE, Pa. - Graduate transfer Martin Mann and first-year Isaiah Edmond each posted double-figures in their first game for the Red and White. However, it was not enough as the visiting York College of Pennsylvania earned a 66-57 non-conference win at the Kline Center on Tuesday night.
Dickinson dug themselves an early 5-0 hold, before Mann tallied his first of a team-high 16 points at the 1:02 mark. York extended the margin to 12-4 with a 7-2 run as
Anthony Goeb provided the only bucket for the home side. The newcomer duo pulled the Devils to within three 12-9 thanks to a triple by Edmond and another layup for Mann. However, another 7-2 charge for the guests capped off by a layup from Jackson Mascari off a feed by Sean Kelly stretched the lead to 19-11.
Randy Shephard and
Luke Spellman provided their first offense of the season to keep DC within striking distance at 23-16 with just under six minutes to play in the opening half. First-year Skyler Venezia found his way into the scorebook with a shot from long-range thanks to an assist by Shephard trimming it to 23-19, but a 9-3 response from the Spartans extended the advantage to double-digits 32-22 with two seconds to play. Dickinson would find the final point of the period as a foul by Kelly just prior to the horn led to Edmond splitting a pair of free throws to leave the home side down 32-23 at half.Â
DC started the second half strong as
Andrew Gostovich knocked down a pair at the charity stripe, while Mann converted an "old-fashioned" three-point play to cut the deficit down to 32-28 just over a minute in. Five consecutive points from Kai Cipalla sparked the third 7-2 push of the night for York to make it 39-30 at the five minute mark. A trey for
Brandon Wiercinski along with a layup from Edmond trimmed the gap to 43-35, but a 7-0 answer from the Spartans ending on a basket for Johnny Kennevan blew the advantage out to 15 (50-35) with 10:31 gone. A layup by
Aaron Bailey stunted the visitors momentum and started a 7-2 response for the Red and White with Goeb and Mann contributing to the Devils offense to make it 52-42. However, consecutive Jayden Rowe triples coupled with a layup for Cipalla and two free throws by Chris Miers pushed the advantage out to 62-47 with 2:35 remaining. The young guns then got hot for the Devils as Venezia knocked down a three and added two at the line, while Edmond chipped in three more to bring the gap to just eight (63-55). Dickinson would just run out of time as Mann converted a layup with 20-seconds left to cap the scoring for the Dickinson as the Spartans left with the 66-57 win.
