Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Dickinson baseball team was held to just three hits on the afternoon as the Red and White dropped the series finale to the host Lynchburg University Hornets by a score of 10-0 on Sunday at James C Fox Field.
The Devils put two on with two down in the top of the first as Andrew Mazzone reached on an error and Luke Jackson singled, but Kaden Sigmon struck out against Brandon Pond to retire the side. Koll Peichel fell behind 2-0 in the home half when Garret Jackson tripled home Cameron Lane after he was hit by a pitch to start the game. Jackson came home on a sac fly off the bat of Avery Neaves for the first out. Peichel then settled down picking off Gavin Collins at first and fanning PJ Alvanos.
Dickinson looked to get on the board two frames later when they worked the bases loaded with one down without recording a hit. Sigmon grounded into a fielder's choice which forced out Kenny Tagliareni at home. Pat Harrington stalled the potential rally with a groundout to Jackson at first to end the threat. The Hornets tacked on one in the home-half when Lane smacked a single to left driving in Carrson Atkins.
Lynchburg put distance between the two teams in the fourth as the first three batters reached before Jackson was plunked by Peichel to plate one. That spelled the end of the day for Peichel bringing Grayson Walker to the hill. He would walk Collins to force in another and then Neaves drove home two with a single extending the gap to 7-0. Then with Alvanos at the dish Walker uncorked a wild pitch to plate the eighth run of the game.
Two walks with one away in the top of fifth gave DC a chance to get something going, however, a fly out from Sigmon and a fielder's choice by Luke Atsalis stopped the threat. A walk and a double put men on second and third with no one down in the bottom of the frame for Holden Fiedler. During his at-bat, a wild pitch from Beau Dana scored Jackson Harding. Dana prevented any more damage as he got Atkins to line into a double play and struck out Lane.
The Hornets picked up the last run of the game during the eighth as an Alvanos two-out single drove in Caleb Franklin.
