Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Dickinson baseball team used five pitchers and allowed just five hits en route to a 1-0 win over the Ithaca College Bombers on Monday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park.
Both starting pitchers Thomas Marshman and Kyle Lambert allowed a baserunner in the opening frame but did not allow them to get any further than first base.
It would be the Bombers who got the first hit of the game as Gil Merod singled, however, he would be erased on a 6-4-3 double play. Matt Fabian picked up the second hit of the inning for Ithaca, but Marshman got a fly out to retire the side. In the home-half of the frame, Colin Jones worked a walk and stole second with two out to bring up Ryan Thompson. He could not produce the first run as he grounded out to second.
Ithaca put a runner on second with one away in the third, fortunately for the Red and White Marshman induced consecutive groundouts to stall the threat. Dickinson found themselves in the same scenario the following inning after a single and stolen base for Pat Harrington. However, a flyout by Luke Jackson and a strikeout-throw-out double play against Cole Hare kept things scoreless.
The Bombers loaded the bags in the fifth with one out, but could still not scratch across a run as Marshman got Colin Shashaty to hit into an inning-ending double play. The home-half of the frame saw the only run of the game as Tom Gannaway picked up a one-out single before Thompson smashed a double to plate the run.
A single for Louis Fabbo spelled the end of the day for Marshman as he was replaced by Joey Sangiuolo after 5.1 innings of four-hit baseball. He would issue a walk to Merod but set down Nicholas Cutaia and Ryan Laubscher to prevent any damage.
Peyton Fox posted a one-two-three seventh and allowed just one walk in the eight to preserve the 1-0 advantage. In the ninth, Cole Benner replaced Fox and walked Merod to put the tying run on base. The Red Devils then went to Matt Spind to try and pick up his second straight save. He gave up a single to Laubscher, before putting away the next three batters to end the game.
