CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team posted season-highs in attack percentage (.338) and service aces (18) on Friday night as the Red and White cruised past the visiting Wilson College Phoenix by a score of 3-0 in non-conference action at the Kline Center.
The two sides were close early in the first set as kills from
Cassidy Davis,
Sophia Denayer,
Dessie Anne Nietert, and
Willow Palmer had the hosts in front 5-3. After that it was all DC with scores by
Grace Coccagna,
Emma Lange,
Avery Lewis,
Mathilde Verbitsky, and Denayer aiding in a 14-2 charge to jump ahead 19-5. The Phoenix took four of the next five thanks to Alexis Buckley and Niki Schussler to make it 20-9. However, a 5-2 close to the set ending in a kill for Denayer gave Dickinson a 25-11 win.
The Devils stormed out to an 8-3 advantage in the second with Davis, Denayer, and Verbitsky notching kills for the hosts. Three DC mistakes closed the gap to 10-6, but then two kills by
Lillian Bigsby, as well as one each from Davis, Denayer, and Verbitsky extended the margin to 15-10. Dickinson then went on a 10-2 run on scores from
Willow Palmer, Coccagna, Denayer, and Nietert to cap off a 25-12 victory.
Wilson held tough to begin the third as the teams split the first points. Then, the Red and White opened things up using an 11-2 gallop thanks to aces by Denayer and Lewis coupled with kills from Bigsby, Davis, Nietert, and Palmer to make it 13-4. The Phoenix then racked five of the ensuing seven points without recording a kill, before Denayer, Nietert, and Palmer responded with a 7-1 charge pushing the margin out to 22-10. Kills by Allyson Garcelon and Schussler trimmed the gap to 24-15, but a service error for Karyssa Faith wrapped up the match 25-15.
