CARLISLE, Pa. - For the second time in as many the Dickinson women's basketball team faced a conference foe for a second time. Despite getting double-digit efforts from the trio of
Caitlin Blackman,
Lindsey Hollenshead, and
Clair Marion it was not enough as the visiting Gettysburg College avenged an earlier loss to the Red and White with a slim 60-57 win at the Kline Center on Wednesday night.
The game went scoreless for the first two-and-a-half minutes until Blackman finally took the lid off the bucket, before Mackenzie Szlosek answered back a minute later. Dickinson then embarked on a 7-0 push with three points coming from
Mia Kolb, while
Mia Chapman and Marion also chipped in to make it 9-2. Szlosek responded with four in a row and Alayna Arnolie added a jay pulling to within 9-8 with 80-seconds left. Each team netted one more basket prior to the end of the period with Blackman tallying for the Devils to leave the hosts in front 11-10 after one.Â
Five straight points for the visitors was answered by ten consecutive for the home side as
Kate Montgomery, Hollenshead, Kolb and Marion all contributed to open up a six-point cushion at 21-15 at the 4:49 mark. Once again the away side had an answer going on a 9-3 push with the lone DC basket coming out of the hands from Marion beyond the arc to have things tied at 24-24 with 02-seconds remaining. Dickinson would take a thin edge to the locker room when
Gina Neigel knocked down a 15-foot jumper from the left baseline to make it 26-24 through 20 minutes.Â
The Red and White grabbed the early advantage coming out of the break with a two-pointer from Hollenshead and a pair of Kolb free throws giving DC a 30-27 lead with just over two minutes gone. Hollenshead continue to hit the bottom of the net scoring two more baskets during a 7-4 stretch for the Bullets capped off by a jumper for Meghan Barbera to knot the score back up at 34-34 at the halfway point. A pair of Blackman jumpers coupled with a foul shot for Marion left DC down by one 40-39 with 1:55 to play. The visitors tallied five of the next nine and eight of the final dozen to take a 48-43 advantage into the fourth.Â
The teams shared the opening eight points of the fourth, before the Bullets got scores from AB Holsinger and Szlosek to extend the advantage to 56-47 with 2:41 off the clock. Free throws by Kolb along with a layup from Marion made 58-51. Dickinson kept up the fight over the final three minutes as foul shots by
Jenna Weinstein and Hollenshead followed by a three-ball from Marion pulled the Devs to within 58-57 with 1:04 left. Unfortunately, a baseline jumper for Lee gave the guests the 60-57 edge, while two late triple attempts by Marion and Montgomery fell short allowing the Bullets to escape with the win.
