CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team got back on the right track Thursday night by building up a convincing 40-11 halftime lead en route to a 61-47 wire-to-wire conference victory over Centennial Conference foe McDaniel College at the Kline Center.
The Devils went up 4-0 before two minutes had clicked off the clock as
Mia Kolb and
Clair Marion both hit the bottom of the net. 20-seconds later Mallory Conroy put the visitors on the board with a layup before
Caitlin Blackman,
Lindsey Hollenshead, Kolb and Marion all scored during a 10-0 push to open up a 14-2 cushion with 2:19 left. Elaina Beckett then notched five straight for the guests to close within 14-7. However, a jumper for Kolb and a buzzer-beating triple from Marion had DC up a dozen after one (19-7).
Maggie Burgess tallied the first bucket of the second at the 1:50 mark, but then the Red and White took command of the game with five by Marion and two each for
Kate Montgomery, Blackman, and Kolb resulted in an 11-0 charge to extend the margin to 30-9 at the halfway point of the quarter. Two foul shots by Liliana Overcash stopped the run for a moment. However, those were the final points for the Green Terror in the half as
Jenna Weinstein, Blackman, Kolb and Marion led an 8-0 push over the final 4:24 to give Dickinson a 40-11 advantage at halftime.
The first minute of the third period saw each team score with Blackman netting a layup for the Devils, while Beckett dropped in a basket for McDaniel. The two sides shared the ensuing ten points as Marion and Montgomery recorded points for the hosts to make it 47-18. An "old-fashioned" three-point play for the Devils by Weinstein was followed by a Montgomery layup to stretch the margin to 52-18 with 4:30 remaining. Six of the final ten points of the frame went to the guests with Jocey Klingenberg, Burgess and Conroy helping the Terror to chip the deficit down by two to 56-24 heading to the fourth.
Some depth players got some time for the Red and White in the fourth as
Irene Haramis and
Molly Heron recorded the only five points of the period for the Devils as McDaniel won the frame 23-5 to close out the 61-47 final.
