Devils Light Up Nets and Bears

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Senior guard Mia Kolb dropped a career-high 19 points and helped her team to shoot a season-high 56.9% from the floor as the Red and White cruised to a 70-36 Centennial Conference win over the host Ursinus College Bears at Helfferich Hall on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears were on top early 6-3 on buckets by Sarah DiLello and Chinwe Irondi. A triple from Kate Montgomery and a layup for Kolb nudged the guests ahead 8-6 with 4:10 to go. Margrett Brown and Irondi put the home side back into the lead, before Mia Chapman and Kolb six of the final eight to lead 14-12 after one.

A Kelly Grant jumper 50-seconds into the frame leveled the score, but then the quartet of Clair Marion, Chapman, Kolb and Montgomery mounted a 12-2 stomp to grab a ten-point cushion at 26-16 with 5:22 off the clock. After an Irondi layup stopped the push for a moment jumpers by Kolb and Marion wrapped up the scoring for the half with DC up a dozen (30-18).

Caitlin Blackman and Lindsey Hollenshead made their first appearance on the scoresheet inside the opening two minutes of the third to stretch the lead to 34-18. Two Madison Smith baskets made it 36-22, but then a pair of Jenna Weinstein layups along with a Chapman bucket extended the margin by two to 18 at 42-24 with just under 90-seconds left in the period. The Bears tallied three of the final five points with Blackman cashing in at the horn for the 44-27 advantage through 30-minutes.

Dickinson blew things up in the fourth with Blackman netting a quick four points, followed by a triple for Kolb and a fastbreak layup by Hollenshead making it 53-29 with just over two minutes gone. After a scoreless minute, DC went right back to work as Kolb and Marion each added three more to push the lead to the 30-point threshold at 59-29. A 7-2 Bears run was answered by nine consecutive Devils points to end the game thanks to Ella Smith, Victoria Zerbe, Chapman and Weinstein to close out the dominating 70-36 win.
