Devils Scare Off Green Terror in Overtime

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Dickinson men's basketball team put three players in double-figures led by 29 from Martin Mann en route to snapping a five-game skid with a 71-68 overtime win at the Gill Center over conference foe McDaniel College. The win avenges a 58-52 overtime home loss to the Green Terror back in November.

Dickinson was hot from deep early as Andrew Gostovich canned a pair of triples inside the opening three minutes to give DC a 6-4 edge. Seven of the next ten went to the home side with Carter Truby dropping five and Russell Dandridge adding a layup to nudge the home side on top 11-9 at the 5:47 mark. The trio of Isiah Edmond, Anthony Goeb and Mann each found the bottom of the net over the next couple of minutes to allow Dickinson to reclaim the lead 15-13. However, Lorin Hall, Christian Taylor and Truby brought McDaniel back into the lead in the seesaw affair at 20-17 still with half the period to play. Randy Shephard, Edmond and Gostovich all tallied over the ensuing five minutes to pull DC level 25-25. An "old-fashioned" three-point play for Edmond put the Devs on top 28-27, but a pair of Truby free throws made it 29-28 home side at the break.

Mann recorded six of the first seven DC points in the second period to make it 35-33 visitors with three minutes gone. After a Dandridge layup, Dickinson responded with buckets from Goeb and Mann to open up a seven-point cushion 42-35. McDaniel came back with eight of the next ten thanks to Jardel Darego and Hall to cut the deficit by six (44-43). Mann netted the following six for the Devils to help them maintain a slim one-point edge 50-49 with 11:28 off the clock. Two foul shots for Mann pushed it to 52-49, but then a 6-0 Terror run capped by a Truby fastbreak bucket sent McDaniel back to the front 55-52 with less than five to play. Free throws from Edmond, Goeb and Mann bumped the Red and White back ahead 58-57. A Hall jumper made it 59-58, before a trey from Skyler Venezia made it 61-59 Devils with just a dozen ticks left. Unfortunately, a pair of Hall foul shots with three seconds remaining led to overtime at 61 apiece.

Dickinson began the extra session with layups for Goeb and Mann to open up a 65-61 advantage with 2:52 remaining. David Smoot cut into the deficit with two on the charity stripe, before Mann knocked down four consecutive making it 69-63 with a minute left. Despite Dickinson going just 2-6 at the line over the final 30 seconds the visitors were able to hold on for the 71-68 win.
