Devils Win Three Races, but Not Enough Against Bears

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Dickinson first-year Isabel McGovern won twice, while senior Caroline Wasielevski bested the field once as the Red and White fell short of knocking off the host Ursinus College by a score of 116-82 on Saturday afternoon in conference action.

In the first event of the day the 200-yard medley relay the group of Sydney Farling, Emma Johnston, Tori May and Wasielevski clocked in at 1:57.03 for second, while the unit of Bella Gerkin, Sarah McHenry, Molly Tate and Norah Wilson landed in third a second back (1:58.40). 

Caroline Christianson finished second during the 1000-yard freestyle clocking in at 11:16.39.

McGovern got her first win of the meet in the 200-yard freestyle hitting the wall in 1:57.50 three seconds better than the Bears Katie Barlow (2:00.36). Gerkin also competed taking fourth with a 2:16.94.

The Devils took a pair of podium slots within the 50-yard freestyle as Wasielevski won the event in 25.48, while Wilson claimed third at 26.17. Tate rounded out the field in fifth (27.73).

A pair of Devils were involved in the 400-yard individual medley with Johnston claiming second at 4:46.88, followed by May (4:50.25).

The next event was the 100-yard butterfly and that was where McGovern grabbed win number two with a 58.66. Sarah Mulcahy landed in fourth thanks to a 1:05.16, followed by Margie Winter at 1:08.35.

Wasielevski seized a second-place result during the 100-yard freestyle by posting a 56.72. First-years Farling and Annelyse Warner did enough to take fourth (59.02) and sixth (1:03.98) respectively. 

May landed on the podium for the 100-yard backstroke as she clocked in at 1:02.21 for second. McHenry hit the wall with a 1:04.25 for fourth, while Isobell O'Connell landed in fifth (1:08.16).

Two DC swimmers were involved in the 500-yard freestyle with Johnston claiming second with a 5:23.67 and Christianson hitting the wall in 5:35.48 for fourth. 

Dickinson held down third through fifth for the 100-yard breaststroke led by Farling with a 1:13.60, followed by Gerkin (1:14.60) and Mulcahy (1:17.01).

The team of Christianson, McGovern, O'Connell and Wilson posted a time of 3:47.22 for second during the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Dickinson will now have some time before they return to action on Thursday, February 16th for day one of the Centennial Conference Championship at Gettysburg College.
