YORK, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team began a big two-day stretch of action Friday night with their final non-conference match of the season as they made the short trip down to York College of Pennsylvania in search of a nice win to kickstart the weekend. Fortunately, for the Red and White that was exactly what they got at Charles Wolf Gymnasium as they blanked the Spartans by a final of 3-0.
The first ten points of the match were split evenly as kills from
Alexa Barowski and
Amelia Kim left things knotted at 5-5. A pair of Kim scores helped DC to claim a slim 8-7 edge, but then Liz Kerin and Gianna Krinock answered back with a 6-2 charge to jump ahead 13-10. Four consecutive errors by the Spartans gave the Devils a 14-13 lead, before Jennifer Taylor took two of the ensuing three to draw level 15-15. The next ten points went "tic for tac" as
Jessica Currie,
Dessie Anne Nietert and
Mathilde Verbitsky tallied for the visitors to make it 20-20. Dickinson then put the set away with five consecutive scores thanks to a kill from Barowski and two aces for
Grace Coccagna to take it 25-20.
York had an early 2-1 advantage in the second, but then Barowski and Kim aided an 11-1 rampage to jump up by nine (12-3). Three of the next five went to Abby Diehl and Krinock, before an ace for
Ann Marie Patterson along with kills from Currie and Nietert open up the margin to double-digits at 19-9. The Spartans attempted to rally back with scores by Morgan Nolte and Megan Holmes cutting the deficit to 21-13. For the second straight frame the Devils ended with a run as three YCP errors set the stage for Kim to put down the final kill (25-13).   Â
The trio of Barowski, Kim and Verbitsky had Dickinson off to a solid start in the third as they led 5-2. After two straight by the hosts pulled them to within 5-4, but then
Camille Dofiles, Currie and Kim all found their way to the scoresheet to make it 9-5. Once again the Spartans put up some resistance as Krinock, Nolte and Taylor embarked on an 11-5 charge to jump ahead 16-14. Three kills by Kim and an ace out of the hand of Dofiles moved DC back to the front at 20-18. Scores for Krinock helped the home side to stay close 21-20, before a pair of Barowski kills and two YCP errors ended the match 25-21.
