Devils Fall in Non-Conference Finale to Sea Gulls

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team had the better of the play for most of the match, but were unable to hit the net through 90-minutes. However, at the other end Gavin Miller notched the lone tally in the 86th to allow the visiting Salisbury University to post a 1-0 non-conference win at Miller Memorial Field.

Dickinson recorded the opening three shots of the match as both Johnny Diederich and Cole Jennings were stopped by Mason Jones, while Tyson Burling rocketed one off target to the right in the 16th. The visitors notched their first chance with 17:13 off the clock when Josh Williamson was unable to bother Thomas Sniezek in goal for the Red and White. The next three chances for the Devils did not test Jones as Mack Moore (20th), Giorgio Gayleard (27th) and Ethan Jarden (32nd) all missed the mark. The Sea Gulls attempted to go into the break with a 1-0 lead, but Cooper Santos could not keep his offering online.

Skylar McCarthy took over between the sticks for the away side to begin the second period and was immediately put under pressure as both Diederich and Gayleard fired shots off target within the first eight minutes. McCarthy was then called into action in minute 59 when Jarden was stopped, but Connor Uitterdijk collected the rebound and let an offering go towards McCarthy which he pushed away as well. It took until the 66th-minute for Salisbury to record their first chances of the half, but Aden Sabur and Jake Trama did not call Sniezek into action. The Sea Gulls kept the attack going with three more blasts coming from Gabe Glikin, Alex Floyd and Dale Gordon, fortunately all of them went wide of the goal to keep things 0-0. Each side would get one final look over the final ten minutes as Diederich was turned away by the keeper off a corner, before Miller delivered a strike from just outside the 18-yard box that curled away from Sniezek to allow the guests to claim the 1-0 win.

Postseason Outlook
With just one conference match left Dickinson unfortunately sits on the outside looking in of the playoff picture on eight points trailing the final team(s) Haverford and Swarthmore by two points. The Red and White will not control their own destiny going into the final day of the conference season on Saturday. The Devils will need to beat Johns Hopkins and have the Swarthmore-Haverford match earlier in the day not end in a tie to make the dance.

Next on the Pitch
Dickinson (8-6-2, 2-4-2 Centennial) will conclude their regular season slate at Miller Memorial Field on Saturday evening at 6pm when they host the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University with the playoff fate possibly hanging in the balance. It will also be Senior Day for the Devils!
