Devils Season Ended by Owls in Centennial First Round

CARLISLE, Pa. - The fourth-seeded Dickinson field hockey team had their season unfortunately come to an end on Tuesday afternoon with a 2-0 Centennial Conference First Round playoff loss to the visiting fifth-seeded Bryn Mawr College Owls at the Biddle Field Complex.

Two minutes into the match Dickinson found themselves a "player down" after Morgan Yandow-Harding was assessed a green card. During the two minute penalty the Owls would earn one corner and record one shot from Novy Goetgeluk which went wide of DC keeper Taylor Schlein. Each team would post two chances over the final seven minutes with Maggie Carson and Alexandra Hockwitt having their offerings blocked by the Bryn Mawr defense, while Maggie Barilla and Reba Ervin missed the mark at the other end to wrap-up the first scoreless.

The opening five minutes of the second period went by without either team able to work inside the opposition's attacking circle. Then, with just 5:09 off the clock the Devils would tally the first opportunity of the quarter when a corner played in by Abby Marthins found the stick of Carson for a rip, but it was blocked down before it got to Owls goalie Charlene Basque. Unfortunately, for the Red and White the visitors posted the final four shots of the frame scoring on two of them with Annick van Blerkom setting up Eva Yacura off a corner in the 27th-minute, before Charlotte Hauptman pounced on her own rebound and beat Schlein for a 2-0 lead through 30 minutes.

Three minutes into the third the Devils earned a corner which led to a chance for Malena Malka Goldman that was broken up by the BMC backline. Two minutes after that a pair of corners fed into the circle by van Blerkom resulted in rips from Sarah Chapman and Hazel Miller which forced one stop out of Schlein. The Red and White were then put in another "player down" situation with 42:08 off the clock when a green card was issued to Hockwitt. Just 30-seconds into the penalty Izzy Robinson-Cloete blasted a shot towards cage that was batted away by Schlein to keep it 2-0 entering the final quarter.

Dickinson began the fourth by applying some pressure into the Bryn Mawr end as Marthins found Malka Goldman for a shot just 81-seconds in that was blocked en route to the goal. The Devils were then handed a great opportunity to get back into the match during the 51st-minute when a green card handed out to Miller put DC up a player for two minutes. However, it would be the Owls that recorded the only shot over that stretch as Barilla fired wide of cage. The final eight minutes slipped off the clock with Dickinson not able to muster another shot allowing the visitors to close out the 2-0 win.
