Devils Head Into Turkey Day by Scaring Off Green Terror

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball put three players in double-figures on Tuesday night to make sure they went into the Thanksgiving break on a high note, as the Red and White overcame 19 giveaways and shot a solid 7-of-16 from long range to pick up a 63-47 win in their Centennial Conference opener over McDaniel College at the Kline Center.

The two sides traded baskets early on as Anthony Goeb, Nate Ogbu and David Petrusev had things locked up at 6-6 with just over three minutes off the clock. Dickinson continued to fill-up the hoop scoring six of the next eight points thanks to Goeb and Petrusev making it 12-8 at the 6:49 mark. McDaniel fought back using triples from Joey Reiling and Christian Taylor as well as two on the foul line for Jahdel Darego to jump ahead 16-15 inside the ten minute mark. The Red and White then got hot from deep as Skyler Venezia, Goeb and Petrusev each knocked down a three-ball during an 11-1 charge stretching the lead out to 26-17 with 5:54 remaining. The Green Terror responded with an 8-2 push beginning with a three for Jonas Sujeta and ending on a jumper in the paint for Chuck Contee to cut the deficit down to just two (28-26). Isaiah Edmond closed out the frame by sticking back a miss from Venezia to lead 30-26 after 20 minutes.

After the first four combined shots were missed to begin the second-half, Edmond and Sujeta exchanged buckets to leave it at 32-28 with four minutes off the clock. A shot from downtown by Andrew Gostovich off a feed from Edmond "kick-started" a 7-0 rush for the hosts with Edmond and Ogbu also contributing to the 39-28 advantage. Contee and Taylor tried to bring the Green Terror back into the game, but Goeb along with Petrusev extended the margin to a dozen at 44-32 at the 10:09 mark. Four free throws by Sujeta coupled with jumpers from David Kearney and Taylor trimmed the gap to just four, 44-40. However, five points from rookie Cole Cosby and jumper for Venezia aided an 8-2 charge for the Devils to open the lead back to double-digits (52-42). A layup from Kearney slowed things for a second, but Edmond and Goeb knocked home a combined five of six foul shots to to leave the margin at a dozen 57-45 inside the final four minutes. Despite a layup from Sujeta at the 17:32 mark, the home side made sure that McDaniel got no closer as Goeb, Petrusev and Venezia salted the game away on the foul line for the 63-47 final.
