CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball trailed early in the first 4-2 to the visiting Hood College Blazers on Sunday afternoon, but used a 19-2 outburst over the final seven minutes to take a 21-6 lead through ten minutes and never looked back as the Devils snapped their two-game skid with a 58-29 non-conference win at the Kline Center.
Buckets from Chanelle Lee and Tiffany Manning gave the visitors a 4-2 edge with 2:12 off the clock, before
Clair Marion collected eight of her game-high 24 points and
Clare Cronley dialed up a shot from deep to give the home side a 13-4 advantage. After a Lee steal and score,
Caitlin Blackman stuck a pair of triples while
Mia Chapman converted a layup to take the 21-6 lead after just one quarter.
Hood attempted to get back into the game to begin the second as scores for Sami Betley and Manning accounted for a 6-0 run to close within 21-12 with just over two minutes off the clock. The Red and White continued to be hot from deep as
Victoria Zerbe setup a trey for Marion, prior to
Indatou Ali-Goukoye playing provider to
Lindsey Hollenshead to open up a 26-12 cushion at the 3:19 mark. Manning tallied three in a row to make it 26-15, but two on the charity line by Blackman and four more from Marion extended the margin out to 32-15. Nikki Etchison would split two at the stripe to wrap up the scoring for the half at 32-16.
The Blazers picked up the opening two points of the third with both Lee and Manning going one-of-two at the line. However, they were answered immediately by triples for Blackman and Marion as well as
Jenna Weinstein cashing in from the paint off a dish from
Abby John to push the advantage past 20 to 40-18. Hood then galloped a little closer with baskets by Na'Vaye Quarles, Tam Stanford and Betley making it 42-35 with 93-seconds to play. Ali-Goukoye finished off the third with a layup thanks to a nice feed by Zerbe for the 44-25 advantage through three.
It took almost two minutes to see the first points of the fourth as Blackman finally stuck a jumper, which she then followed with a three for a 49-25 edge. The Devils continued to add-on with two at the line by Marion and five points for Weinstein to stretch the lead out to 56-27. Nyla Laniyonu and Ali-Goukoye traded buckets over the final two minutes to set the 58-29 result.
