CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball team wrapped up their 2022-23 campaign with a 53-40 Centennial Conference loss to the visiting Haverford College on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center. Prior to the start of the game the Red and White honored both
Martin Mann and
Luke Spellman along with student assistant
Alex Caldeira who were involved in their last game in Carlisle.
Haverford took an early 2-0 lead on a pair of free throws by Nate Torres, before Dickinson mounted an 8-1 run on buckets by
Aaron Bailey,
Anthony Goeb,
Brandon Wiercinski and Spellman to take an 8-3 edge with 13:10 left. Six of the next nine went to the Fords to close within 11-9, but then DC ripped off nine straight thanks to
Randy Shephard,
Skyler Venezia and Goeb to make it 18-9 inside nine minutes left. Ryan Jackson then tallied eight of the next ten points on his own trimming the gap to just three (20-17). A triple from
Isaiah Edmond and a jumper in the paint by Shephard bumped the edge out to four at 26-22 at the 17:53 mark. The two sides shared the final eight points of the period with
Drew Haueisen and Edmond providing the offense to give DC the 30-26 halftime edge.
Shephard opened the lead out to 32-26 within the first minute, but then a 7-0 Haverford response brought the visitors to the front 33-32 with 12:52 remaining. Bailey gave DC the lead back with three straight points, before Nicholas Stewart kicked off a 7-0 romp ending on a Torres layup to make it 40-35 guests. Mann then split a pair at the line for his first point of the contest. After adding four more, Mann and the Devils had drawn level at 40-40 at the 14:19 mark. Unfortunately, for the Red and White they would go scoreless the rest of the game as the Fords wrapped things up with a 13-0 run to cap off the 53-40 final.
