CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team continued their ascent up the Centennial Conference standings on Saturday afternoon with a dominating 61-35 Centennial Conference win over the visiting Washington College Shorewomen at the Kline Center. Prior to the start of the game the Red and White honored their three seniors
Mia Kolb,
Kate Montgomery and
Gina Neigel.
It took over two minutes to see the first points of the game when
Lindsey Hollenshead knocked down a jumper which kicked off an 8-1 run for the Red and White. The two sides then traded the next eight points with
Mia Chapman and
Jenna Weinstein hitting the bottom of the net to extend the lead to 12-3 with 2:07 left in the first. Andrea Prestianne buried a triple and Amari Faust hit a jumper to cap off the scoring in the first at 12-8.
Dickinson was on fire to begin the second as
Clair Marion delivered from downtown, while Kolb and Montgomery chipped in during an 11-2 charge to open the margin out to 23-10 with 6:26 to play. Washington spent the next three minutes continuing to chip away at the deficit with Lizzie Hudock, Kiersten Rose and Prestianne all tallying points to close within 25-19 at the 8:43 mark. The Red Devils would record the final three points of the period thanks to
Victoria Zerbe and Chapman making it 28-19 going to the locker room.
Marion was on a personal vendetta it seemed to kickoff the third as she dropped the Devils first 11 points of the frame to stretch things out to 39-21 four minutes in. After two foul shots from Chapman, Marion recorded a steal and went coast-to-coast for the finish to push the lead over the 20-point threshold at 43-22 with 3:28 remaining.
Abby John and Zerbe also found their way onto the scoresheet over the final two minutes to give DC a 47-25 lead through 30-minutes.Â
Kolb tallied four of the opening eight points of the fourth to make it 53-27 with three minutes off the clock. Layups from Kaitlyn Boggs and Prestianne stunted the crowd's enthusiasm for a second, before Chapman, Montgomery and Zerbe dropped six in a row to open things back up to 59-31.
Caitlin Blackman picked up her only points of the day with three minutes left, while Karry Kelliher and Prestianne scored for the Shorewomen to set the 61-35 final.
