Devils Defense Stifles Mules For Fifth Straight Win

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - For the fourth consecutive game the Dickinson women's basketball team showcased a stifling and dominating defense as they limited their fourth-straight opponent to under 40 points, allowing the host Muhlenberg College just 35 points en route to a 57-35 conference win on Thursday night at Memorial Hall. 

The two sides traded buckets within the first two minutes as Kate Montgomery and Caroline Horst scored for their respective sides. Caitlin Blackman then gave DC the lead back with a triple, before Ava Connolly had an answer for the hosts. Mia Chapman finished off a feed from Jenna Weinstein, while Blackman buried another trey for the 10-5 edge. Emily Unger knocked down two foul shots to end the scoring at 10-7 through one. 

Dickinson carried the play in the second as Lindsey Hollenshead, Blackman and Montgomery recorded the first six points of the frame to open the lead to 16-7. After Margaux Eripret split a pair at the line Mia Kolb and Clair Marion each delivered from long-range and Hollenshead converted a layup to give the Devils a 24-10 advantage going to the break.

The Red and White continued to build onto their lead coming out of the break as Blackman, Hollenshead, Marion and Montgomery organized a 10-3 charge to make it 34-13 with 1:56 gone. The next two-and-a-half minutes went by scoreless, before Hollenshead cashed in two at the charity line. Riley Cassidy, Rachel Saxton, and Jenna Stockfeder netted five straight, but then Marion had the answer from deep to push the margin to 39-18 inside the final three minutes. Back-to-back triples by Marion were answered by an three from Avery McNulty to make it 45-21 with a quarter to go.

Layups for Indatou Ali-Goukoye and Blackman were the offense for the Devs during a 10-4 Mules push to close within 49-31 at the 2:37 mark. Four points by Marion and a layup from Hollenshead extended lead to 55-31. Muhlenberg tallied four of the final six to set the 57-35 result.
