Devils Tripped Up by Jays in Charm City

BALTIMORE - The Dickinson women's basketball team watched a seesaw game slip away over the final three minutes on Saturday afternoon at Goldfarb Gymnasium as the host Johns Hopkins University was able to escape with a 53-43 Centennial Conference win.

Dickinson took an early 6-5 lead with buckets coming from Mia Kolb and Kate Montgomery. After another Kolb jumper made it 8-5, Kendall Dunham and Michaela O'Neil led a 7-1 push to give the Blue Jays the 12-9 edge with 80-seconds to play. Mia Chapman notched the final basket of the frame to pull DC within 12-11 through ten minutes.

Hopkins built onto the advantage to begin the second as jumpers by Jadyn Murray and O'Neil stretched the margin to 16-11 with 1:09 off the clock. A score for Montgomery stopped the charge for a moment, before Dunham sank two at the charity stripe to bump it out to 18-13. The final six minutes of the period would feature just buckets one each from Kolb and Montgomery to leave the Red and White behind 18-17 going to the locker room.

The Blue Jays came out of the break flying as scores from Olivia Parisi and Murray made it 22-17, before Caitlin Blackman, Lindsey Hollenshead and Montgomery went on a 6-0 run to move the Devils ahead by the slimmest of margins 23-22 with 7:26 left. Four of the next six belonged to the home team with Dunham and Murray finding the bottom of the net for the 26-25 edge. The trio of Blackman, Hollenshead and Kolb had a 6-2 response for the guests pushing DC back to the lead 31-28. However, JHU wrapped up the period on a 6-2 spurt to take a 34-33 lead into the fourth.

A layup by Greta Miller started the fourth, but then Kolb and Montgomery netted four in a row to retake the lead 37-36 with 2:31 gone. Dickinson continued to hold onto the advantage 41-39 thanks to buckets from Kolb and Montgomery. Six of the next eight belonged to the Jays to grab a 45-43 edge with three minutes left. After each team had an empty possession the Devils thought they would have the opportunity to tie the game at the line as Montgomery chased down her own miss, unfortunately, she would be whistled for a hard luck foul which then led to JHU getting the final eight points of the game to close out the 53-43 win.

Postseason Outlook
Dickinson now sits at 12-5 in the Centennial and would currently occupy the third seed in the upcoming conference tournament. With two wins next week and a pair of losses for Gettysburg, Dickinson would most likely secure the number two seed. With one win in their final two games the Red and White would claim the three seed and host a first round game on Tuesday, February 21st.

Next on the Court
Dickinson (15-7, 12-5 Centennial) will wrap up their regular season home slate on Wednesday night at 6pm when they host the rival Franklin and Marshall College inside the Kline Center.
