New Men Under Center
Randolph-Macon College transfer
Presley Egbers is expected to once again take the helm of the DC ship beginning on Saturday. Last season he played in only the first-half of the season opener against RPI going 7-of-14 for 107 yards and one touchdown, before suffering a season-ending injury. After he went down the tandem of
Rocco DiRico and
Matt Maiona took over under center completing 121 of 230 passes for 1412 yards and eight touchdowns. The trio of
Giovanni Del Re,
Peter Graham and
Luke Martini are also on the roster hoping to contribute.Â
Rushing Attack
Diante Ball is back to lead the DC ground game after posting 1105 yards on 204 touches with 11 touchdowns and averaging 5.4 yards per carry.
Princeton Douglass was the only other Devil to amass over 100 yards on the season with 166 thanks to 34 rushes.
Noah Boyd,
Alex Merrifield and
Adam Smith will look to add onto decent years last season.Â
Pass Catchers
A quartet of receivers will look to serve as the top targets for Egbers and the rest of the quarterback room as Douglass racked up 35 grabs for 457 yards and three TDs, while
Bryce Peterson chipped in 19 receptions totaling 269 yards with a pair of scores. The duo of
Bobby Markey and Ball recorded 329 yards thanks to 31 catches.Â
Defense Helps as Well
Dickinson brings back two defenders that tallied more than 50 tackles during the 2022 season led by
Alex Sulin with 57 stops (34 solo, 23 assists), while
Bram Leys posted 52 hits.
James Basilii and
Justin Rocha both recorded 40 tackles, with Basilii notching two interceptions. The trio of
Lewis Baer,
Fabian Egger and
Neville Krueger all tallied 30 or more stops combining for ten quarterback hits and six pass breakups.Â
Inside the Factory
RPI arrives in downtown Carlisle after going 8-3 in 2022, including a 5-1 mark inside the Liberty League. The last time the Engineers took the field they knocked off Morrisville State College in the ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl in a 10-6 defensive slugfest.Â
Jake Kazanowsky will lead the RPI offense under center after appearing in 11 games last season tossing ten touchdowns on 130 of 225 passing racking up 1323 yards. His top targets that he will be looking for will be Gil Goldsmith after hauling in 28 catches for 304 yards and a pair of TDs, followed by Sterling Walker-Sutton who added another 19 grabs totaling 226 yards. The duo of Shane Allison and Deen Ninche were responsible for five scores and 366 yards on 36 receptions. On the ground leading rusher Dylan Burnett is gone after posting 1075 yards thanks to 213 touches. Both Christian Buckley and Dameon Ming tallied over 100 yards each on a combined 86 rushes.Â
RPI was led last season defensively by Joe Deptula with 101 tackles (51 solo, 50 assisted), while Conner Noyes added 92 stops on his own and the pair combined for 26 tackles for loss accounting for 75 yards. Seven different Engineers also posted 30 or more hits in 2022. If Carlos Davis is still roaming the secondary the Devils QBs will have to be on the lookout as he recorded five interceptions last year, followed by Jimmy Leblo with four.Â
