YORK, Pa. – The Dickinson field hockey team continued their brutal non-conference schedule on Wednesday night with a trip to seventh-ranked York College of Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, for the Red and White they were held to just three shots on the night as the Spartans collected a 3-0 win at Kinsley Field.
Dickinson had to withstand some early pressure from the home side as just one minute in York earned a corner that resulted in a shot from Libby Wild. After the next six plus minutes were mainly contested in the middle of the pitch Meg McClure started driving down the left-side for the Devils, unfortunately her charge was halted by a foul called. There would not be another look toward either team's cage until the 13th-minute when a corner played by Brooke Cordisco landed on the stick of Wild who rocketed an attempt past
Olivia Renault. The Red and White looked to respond just prior to the end of the period earning a pair of corners, but the shots from
Morgan Yandow-Harding and McClure were turned away by Belle Fields to leave it at 1-0 after one.
The Spartans carried the play during the second period as they did not allow a Devils shot over the 15-minute segment. On the other hand, York tallied three shots with Maggie Spadafora being turned aside by Renault, while both Maycee Collison and Katie Martino missed the cage to send things to the break at 1-0 home team.
The Red and White were under duress right from the word "go" coming out of halftime as York recorded three shots and picked up two goals inside the opening five minutes thanks to Hannah Huffman and Martino to extend the lead to 3-0. The home side continued to carry play notching two more shots over the final seven minutes, but both attempts were blocked by the DC defense.
To begin the fourth
Taylor Schlein took over between the pipes and was immediately tested by Riley Buschert, but she was up to the task. The Spartans would record two more shots the rest of the game with Schlein having to tally one more stop. At the other end, Dickinson had their lone shot of the second half with just over two minutes left when
Sophia Pereira played a corner to
Maggie Carson, unfortunately Fields made the save to preserve the 3-0 final.
