Devils Begin Home Slate by Pounding Lions

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team got goals from five different players and outshot the visiting Penn State-Brandywine 29-4 (10-0 on target) on Wednesday evening en route to a comfortable 5-0 non-conference win in the 2023 home opener at Miller Memorial Field.

The opening ten minutes with neither side really able to assert any kind of dominance. However, that all changed in the 12th-minute when a Lions foul committed at the top of the 18-yard box resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for the home side. Saul Iwowo stepped up to the spot and dispatched the 12-yard shot past Elijah DeBooth for the 1-0 edge. Three minutes later it became 2-0 as Iwowo slid a pass across the box after driving down the right-side which landed on the foot of Tyson Burling who turned it into the goal. Brandywine then found their footing recording two shots from Kyle Reuter and Mikey Bunham, but neither frighten the goal manned by Alexander Henrich. Dickinson would tally six of the final seven shots in the opening period, however none of the attempts for Jordan Grivekov (3), Colin Hofmann, Luke Beiles and Geoffrey Ogenrwot tested DeBooth moving things to the half at 2-0.

The second period turned into a shooting gallery for the Red and White as they outshot the visitors 21-1 over the final 45-minutes. Inside the first 15 minutes of the frame the Devils had tallied eight chances coming from Ethan Jarden, Mack Moore, Jackson Wolf, Burling and Iwowo. However, during that rampage just one save was needed by DeBooth. Dickinson continued the pressure with Giorgio Gayleard, Alessandro Forero, Connor Uitterdijk, Burling and Iwowo all ripping shots towards frame, but only the attempt from Forero came close as he rang the crossbar. Over the final 20-minutes DC would notch three more goals. First, after DeBooth had the answer for Beiles, Grivekov and Weber, he finally surrenderred the third of the night when Ogenrwot played a pass to Weber who roofed a shot over the keeper. Then in the 82nd after a Lions giveaway Burling laid a pass off to his right that allowed Jarden to step into a shot that DeBooth got a chunk of, but not enough as it trickled into the net. The Devils finally capped the scoring with 88:45 off the clock when a bouncing ball in the box came to Caleb Crawley as he forced a pass through the defense to Shane Mundorf who was able to muscle it across the line for the 5-0 final.
