Inside the Devils Den
Fireside Review - RPI 38, DEVILS 27
For the second consecutive year the Red and White began the campaign against nationally-recognized Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute last Saturday this time in Carlisle. A 26-yard strike from
Presley Egbers to
Princeton Douglass brought the Devils to within 14-7 at the break. After 10 consecutive points from the Engineers
Diante Ball plunged home from a yard out, but then RPI went right back down the field picking up a 55-yard TD pass by Jake Kazanowsky to make it 31-14 with 3:55 left in the game. A two-yard TD run by Ball and a one-yard TD grab for
Kellen Boyer sandwiched a 55-yard Kayden White rush to set the 38-27 final.
The Offensive General
In his first start since he suffered a season-ending injury in the opener last year against RPI, Egbers went 23-for-49 totaling 255 yards and tossing a pair of touchdown passes, while being sacked twice. He also did some work on the ground scampering for 36 yards on 11 attempts.
Rushing Attack
As he so often did last season Ball was the leader on the ground for the Red and White picking up 75 yards thanks to 17 touches and collecting two TDs. Douglass averaged three yards a carry after racking up nine yards on three rushes.
Noah Boyd also carried one time for one yard.
Pass Catchers
Egbers really spread the wealth on Saturday to all his weapons as he hit nine different targets against RPI. The duo of
Bobby Markey and Ball combined for 10 catches and 109 yards, while
Devlin McCool and Boyer each hauled in three passes accounting for 27 and 23 yards respectively.
Bryce Peterson and Douglass both brought in two passes, while
Keesean Campbell,
Matt Maiona and
Calder Shanks all caught one apiece.
Defense Helps as Well
Dickinson was led on Saturday by
John Prochniak who recorded 13 tackles (0.5 for loss) thanks in large part to eight solo stops. The pair of
James Basilii and
Brendan Walker joined together for 15 hits, including one pass breakup.
Lewis Baer,
Bram Leys and
Jeremy Reid each tallied six tackles and combined for one quarterback hit.
On The Trail
William Paterson University comes into Historic Carlisle for the first time with a mark of 0-1 after slipping up at home last Saturday afternoon against FDU-Florham 33-29.
Mele' Stallings will serve as the Pioneer of the WPU offense after going 6-of-15 last weekend against FDU for 103 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, while also being sacked twice. He spread his targets out as well hitting five different receivers, led by Matt Clarke and his one reception for 63 yards and a score. Dahsir Beverley was the player to catch multiple passes on the day making two grabs for 20 yards. WPU could not get much going on the ground well picking up just 41 yards on 27 carries. Isaiah Leeks paced the rushing attack with 39 yards on a dozen touches. Nazir Dale averaged just over a yard per carry going nine for 12 yards.
Defensive the Pioneers were anchored by the duo of Alajuwon Bell and Devyn Blount who each totaled seven tackles, with Blount adding a pick. RJ Massey also recorded an interception, in addition to racking up six hits. The trio of Pat Green, Yubir Rojas-Herrera and Daniel Torchio joined together for 15 stops (2 for loss and one sack).
