CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team continued to show off their scoring depth on Saturday afternoon, as nine different players found the bottom of the net led by 14 from junior
Clair Marion en route to a 55-38 Centennial Conference win over the visiting Shorewomen of Washington College. With the win, the Red and White have now won five in a row and are a flawless 6-0 in Carlisle.Â
A three-ball from
Lindsey Hollenshead kicked off the scoring just 37-seconds in and sparked a 10-3 DC run over the first seven minutes of the game as
Caitlin Blackman,
Clair Marion and
Victoria Zerbe also contributed for the hosts. The guests attempted to chip into the deficit with buckets by Serena Pluta, Emma Robinson and Kersten Rose cut it down to 14-9. However, with just six seconds left Marion picked off a Karry Kelliher pass and went "coast to coast" for the finish making it 16-9 after one.
Things were quiet early in the second as the first two minutes went by without any points until Kaitlyn Boggs finished in the paint, but she was immediately answered at the other end by Zerbe (18-11). Another layup for Boggs gave WAC the chance to gain some momentum, however, baskets by
Clare Cronley,
Jenna Weinstein, Blackman and Marion capped a 10-0 romp for the Devils to extend their margin to 28-13 with 3:20 left. The next three points went the way of visitors thanks to Peyton Berger and Pluta, before Weinstein posted the final bucket of the half for the 30-16 edge going to the break.Â
Dickinson would stretch the lead to 17 (35-18) coming out of the half courtesy of a three for Marion and a layup by
Mia Chapman. Points from Boggs and Kelliher trimmed it down to 35-21 at the 2:31 mark, before the ensuing three minutes ticked by without a bucket until Blackman setup Marion for a three. After another almost three minute scoring drought for both teams Boggs and Weinstein tallied for the respective sides to send the game to the fourth at 40-23.Â
The two sides traded buckets early in the fourth, but thanks to a triple for Cronley and foul shot by Weinstein the Devils opened up a 20-point cushion (44-24) just over a minute in. Two free throws out of the hands of
Molly Heron were answered by baskets for Abby Meredith, Kelliher and Pluta to close within 46-31. However, as had been the case all game any time WAC got some push Dickinson had an answer as Blackman and Chapman mounted a 6-0 run to push it back out to 52-31.
Gabby Smelcer would hit a three out of the right-corner to end the scoring for the Red and White as the visitors closed on a 7-3 run to set the 55-38 final.
