WESTMINSTER, Md. - Despite placing three players in double-figures the Dickinson men's basketball had their two-game win streak halted on Wednesday night by the host McDaniel College by a score of 58-45 in Centennial Conference action inside the Gill Center.
The home side got off to a quick start as a triple from Chuck Contee along with buckets by Brendan Kade and Joey Reiling made it 7-2 four minutes in. Dickinson responded with five straight thanks to
Nate Ogbu and
David Petrusev to knot things up 7-7.
Isaiah Edmond,
Brandon Wiercinski and Petrusev then organized a 7-3 outburst to open up a 15-10 cushion with 11:07 off the clock. McDaniel spent the next three minutes working their way back into the game as Lorin Hall, David Kearney and Jonas Sujeta tallied seven of the next nine to lock things at 17-17. Each side would score five points over the final three minutes with
Skyler Venezia and Petrusev hitting for DC, while Kade and Kearney answered for the Green Terror to make the score 22-21 home side at the break.
Over the opening five minutes of the second period there were just three points scored as Hall (2) and Ogbu provided foul shots to give MCD a slim 24-22 edge. After Ogbu rammed home a feed from Venezia, the hosts got buckets by Contee and Kearney to rack up seven straight for the 31-24 advantage with 12:39 left. Jumpers for Edmond, Ogbu and Petrusev continued the seesaw with a 6-3 stretch to cut the deficit down to 34-30 inside the ten minutes. Once again as the Devils got close the Terror had the answer this time mounting an 8-3 ending with Kade finding Sujeta to take a 42-33 lead at the 15:14 mark. Two buckets by Ogbu stemmed the tide for a moment, but four points for Reiling held the margin at nine (46-37). After a pair of Hall foul shots made it 48-37, Edmond responded with four consecutive points at the charity line (48-41) with just over a minute left. However, McDaniel went 10-for-10 at the line the remainder of the game to close out the 58-45 final.
