CARLISLE, Pa. - First-year players
Nicholas Dwamena and
Timi Omoniwa each collected a goal on Wednesday night as the sixth-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team finished off a flawless non-conference schedule by edging out the visiting Desales University Bulldogs 2-1 at Miller Memorial Field. With tonight's result the Red and White completed a perfect 9-0-0 run in non-conference fixtures during the 2024 season, which includes a win over then third-ranked Messiah University on the road.
- There were only two shots inside the first 20 minutes with both of them coming from Dickinson players. First, Ethan Jarden was denied by the crossbar, before a beautifully weighted corner kick from Omoniwa found the head of Dwamena who beat DSu keeper Colin Hojnowski for the 1-0 lead.
- Off the ensuing kickoff Desales went in search of an immediate equalizer, but Aidan George turned away Liam MacDonald.
- In the 34th minute, the Bulldogs drew level as George charged off his line to clear a long through ball at the edge of the 18-yard box. Unfortunately for the Red and White he was whistled for a foul for taking out the DSU attacker which resulted in the tying penalty kick being put away by Joseph Reteneller.
- Dickinson would add four more shots in the period with Westin Fryberger, Chaz Smith and Connor Uitterdijk all missing the mark, while Daniel Spataro was denied by the DSU keeper.
- The Devils used the first ten minutes to be on the attack as both Jarden and Omoniwa missed to right of the net, before Jarden finally called on Hojnowski to make another save with 56:38 gone.
- The following three chances belonged to the visitors with Peter Cardinale forcing a stop out of George in the 67th.
- A minute later DC found the eventual match winner as Geoffrey Ogenrwot played a ball through to Dwamena who danced through the DSU backline faked his initial shot and blasted the ball past Hojnowski to make it 2-1.
- From there the Red and White did what they have done all season which is make life miserable for the opponents attack as they put the DSU forwards under "lock and key" not allowing a shot over the final 20 minutes to see out the victory.
