CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson field hockey team got a hat trick from sophomore
Megan McClure and solo tallies from
Erin Liggio and
Nicole Uebele to help them halt a three-game skid, as well as secure conference win number one by knocking off the visiting McDaniel College 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Biddle Field Complex.
- The Red and White recorded the opening three shots of the game less than two minutes in as both Maggie Carson and Uebele missed the mark off of penalty corners, while Alexandra Hockwitt was stopped by Teaghen Rieder.
- The ensuing four minutes went by without much attack from either side until Liggio ripped one wide of cage in the sixth minutes.
- That opened up the Devils attack once again with Malena Malka Goldman and McClure both forcing saves from Rieder.
- McDaniel finally got their opening shot of the contest with 12:20 gone as Morgan Collins was blocked by the defense. Tori McArthur then followed her up with a shot that got past goalie Taylor Morrow, but was swept off the line by Jackie Smith.
- Dickinson did grab a 1-0 lead just prior to the end of the frame as Becca Woods slipped a pass to Liggio who beat Rieder.
- The Terror found the answer just over two minutes into the period when Monica Fuentes had her initial shot stopped by Morrow, but she was able to push the rebound over the keeper.
- Dickinson then took command over the remainder of the frame as Sammi Moonay, Hockwitt and Uebele tasked Rieder into making four more saves off of three corners as the game went to the half.
- The Red and White took the lead for good early in the frame as stops for Rieder against McClure and Liggio, Carson fed a pass into McClure who made it 2-1 just five minutes in.
- Dickinson just kept on plugging away earning four more penalty corners leading to four shots, but none of them finding the net.
- However, with just over five minutes left in the period McClure grabbed her second with Liggio setting her up.
- McDaniel had two looks at pulling one back before the end of the quarter, but Collins was blocked by the defense and Amy Richenderfer was shutdown by Morrow.
- The Green Terror recorded the opening two shots of the frame with Morrow denying both Anna Buyse and Cassidy Cashman within the opening five minutes.
- Dickinson responded with the ensuing three chances leading to McClure finishing off her hat-trick off a dish from Uebele, but Uebele cashed in herself by batting an offering for Liggio past Rieder for the 5-1 lead in the 56th-minute.
- McClure went in search of her fourth in the final two minutes, unfortunately, both chances were snuffed out by the defense as the horn sounded.
