CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team held the visiting Marymount University scoreless for a seven-plus minute span between the third and fourth quarters, while using a 13-4 final frame run to claim their second win of the season 58-40 over the Saints at the Kline Center on Thursday night.
- Jumpers for Caitlin Blackman and Victoria Zerbe along with a triple out of the hands of Clair Marion gave the home team a 7-4 edge with 6:24 to play.
- Ava Achtyl and Cara Vollmer then led a 7-3 charge to give MU the slim 11-10 lead inside of four minutes left.
- Four points by Gabby Smelcer as well as buckets for Clare Cronley and Zerbe allowed the Red and White to cling to an 18-15 advantage with ten in the books.
- The Saints claimed the opening three points of the frame over the opening three minutes drawing even at 18-18 thanks to Kaylah Barr and Kayla Bigsby.
- Two baskets from Marion and solos each by Ella Smith and Blackman made it 26-24 DC, but Vollmer had an immediate answer to level the score.
- Dickinson ended the period on a 10-1 run as Lizzie McGrath hit twice from long-range, Emma Landes buried two foul shots and Smith beat the buzzer at the rim making it 36-27.Â
- The Red and White continued to open up the lead through the first three minutes with Cronley and Zerbe both hitting the bottom of the net (41-29).
- Almost three minutes went by before a jumper for Catie Kolwey sparked a 7-1 push for the Saints to close within 42-36 with 1:46 left.
- Free throws by Blackman and Zerbe capped the scoring for the quarter at 45-36.
- The two teams struggled to find points early as they combined to miss seven straight shots.
- The first-year combo of Landes and McGrath along with Blackman and Marion then blew the game open by scoring nine in a row to make it 54-36.Â
- Jaylah Thompson supplied the first MU basket since the 1:46 mark of the third with 4:15 remaining in the game, followed by a score for Barr to close within 54-40.Â
- Smelcer closed things out on a personal 4-0 push to set the final of 58-40.
